Welcome to PHOC

Come join us on an outing!!

Founded in 1982, PHOC is an outdoor activities club with 500+ members, primarily from the Piedmont Triad area including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Thomasville, Burlington, and surrounding communities. We do have members from Chapel Hill to Asheville, and Charlotte to Reidsville. Most members are in their 40's - 60's, with some individuals and families of older and younger ages.

  • Regular activities include:
  • Day hikes, canoeing/kayaking, and biking
  • Overnight backpacking, camping, canoeing/kayaking and ski trips
  • Dinner outings, club parties and picnics
  • Other events, including group trips throughout the US and around the world

Saturdays we aim to schedule 3 hikes with a variety of difficulty, with drive distances of 30 minutes to 3 hours. Sundays we usually schedule an easy hike with a short drive distance. You can see our upcoming events here. Members also suggest pick-up hikes, bikes and paddles via our private Google Group.

You name it, the group has something for everyone! See the Join page for our low annual rates.

Pilot Mountain State Park — A History and Recently Completed ProjectsPresenter:  Jason Anthony, Park Superintendent

Join the Pilot Mountain State Park superintendent for a talk on how Pilot Mountain became a state park in 1968.  Jason will also highlight recent expansions, specifically the renovated Yadkin River Access (aka Bean Shoals), that is still a work in progress.  Plenty of time will be provided for Q&A about state parks, trails at Pilot Mountain & Hanging Rock, wildlife, and anything you care to ask a ranger!
