Description: Want to learn to kayak rivers but not confident on flowing water? Join us on June 7th on the Dan River near Hanging Rock SP for an introductory training class on how to paddle rivers. You may have paddled flat water but are not comfortable or lack knowledge on flowing rocky rivers. The Dan is a great place to learn. Experienced PHOC kayakers will provide the knowledge and help you develop the skills needed for rocky flowing rivers. We do not paddle the commonly publicized waterfalls nor Eskimo rolls. You will end the class with knowledge about kayaks, reading the river and avoiding rocks. Safety and rescues will also be covered. The presenters are not licensed instructors but have taken multiple classes and know the ropes. The PHOC paddler group wants to encourage new paddlers to this great sport therefore, boats and equipment will be provided where needed. Contact Joel Deaton to register.
